Kyle Gerlach, a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), has been chosen as the 2021 Teaching Assistant (TA) of the Year. Kyle’s nomination was strongly supported by the CEE Department Head, faculty, and Undergraduate students. Kyle was referred to as the “go-to-guy” for a variety of lab courses in the department. His nominators highlighted how Kyle has the tangible ability to support students in a way that bolsters student confidence. Kyle takes leadership coordinating student issues and displays passion for his work. He worked hard to provide timely results and comments for students. One faculty member complimented his weekly efforts in reading and commenting on 200 assignments in 2 days and facilitating student engagement.
Each letter highlighted how Kyle gave his time to help students when they needed it most. There were many great candidates nominated, but the committee thought Kyle stood out as the very best.
