Holocaust Remembrance Day

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in partnership with the Office of Diversity Inclusion and Multicultural Education (ODIME) hosted a Listening Event with a Jewish Holocaust Survivor on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 5:00 PM EST in Olin Hall 107.

This program was planned in part to observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It was also a listening event which allowed our community to observe this day of remembrance with a posture of listening to hear and honor the experiences of survivors. To respect the anonymity of the survivor, the 93-year old survivor’s personal information was not shared prior to the event to circumvent anti-Semitic hate response.

The guest of honor stood for the duration of the evening which lasted an entire ninety (90) minutes. Our guest painted a vivid picture of internment camps, stories of people and loved ones lost during that time, and their tumultuous journey to the United States. This event brought together more than ninety students, faculty, staff, and community members to share in memory a dark time in world history in hope that we never again repeat it.

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) promotes and oversees all student facing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) learning experiences, programs, services, trainings, and initiatives for WPI.
