WPI President Grace J. Wang, PhD, authored an article for Issues in Science and Technology. “Revisiting the Connection Between Innovation, Education, and Regional Economic Growth” examines the role of technological innovation as one ingredient in ‘nucleating’ growth. 

The article makes the case that regional economic growth requires research and development capacity, a broad and diverse talent pool, physical innovation space to foster collaboration, government financial and policy support, and robust venture capital. President Wang details why universities and innovative STEM education are key to this nucleation, and that realizing societal impacts of technological advancement and economic growth should be the guiding vision.
