Expert Bio
Professor Skorinko investigates social factors that influence our attitudes, decisions, and interactions. This includes factors such as stigmas, stereotypes, culture, and perspective taking. She also considers social-cultural factors during the development of assistive technologies and is currently co-PI on a grant with the Disable Persons Protection Commission to develop assistive technologies for those with disabilities. She also plays a leading role in utilizing WPI’s recent ADVANCE grant to examine faculty promotion processes, identify areas of bias that may be impacting female faculty, and implement more equitable policies and practices. Ultimately, she aims to better understand social stigmas, and more importantly promote and enhance equality, diversity, and cultural understanding.

Jeanine Skorinko, professor of psychology, was mentioned in The New York Times article. Skorinko said people's behavior in the new, COVID-19 normal will reflect what they perceive others to be doing. "If your group keeps social-distancing rules, talks quietly, and avoids sharing drinks, you’re likely to follow suit," for example.
The Boston Herald reported on the work that Krishna Venkatasubramanian, assistant professor of computer science, and Jeanine Skorinko, professor of social science and policy studies, are doing on an app to help people with intellectual or developmental disabilities report abuse.
