This evening the WPI Campus Police received information from the FBI concerning a possible threat to a college campus in the Worcester and/or Providence area. Other colleges in the City of Worcester have received this warning. We do not have specific information regarding the targeted campus or timeframe associated with the threat.

At this time law enforcement agencies have not been able to verify the threat. However, in light of the Virginia Tech tragedy, the WPI Administration and Campus Police have taken measures to respond to the threat including notifying our community about the threat and increasing campus patrols. We are receiving assistance from the Worcester Police Department and State Police while we gather additional information on the validity of this threat. We are asking all members of the campus community to be alert and aware of your surroundings. Please report any suspicious persons or activities to WPI Campus Police immediately at (508) 831-5555.

Although we cannot confirm this threat, we have chosen to err on the side of caution by notifying the community. We are doing everything within our power to provide a safe environment. We will provide additional information about this situation when it becomes available.
