The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of the Worcester region, with forecasts calling for significant snowfall beginning tonight and continuing throughout the day tomorrow. Accordingly, WPI is canceling all day and evening classes and scheduled activities on Monday, Feb. 2.

Throughout the duration of the storm, essential personnel will be on campus to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and our facilities; employees should check with their supervisors to determine their status. We ask that all non-essential personnel stay home and off the roads.

The campus will remain open. Here are the hours for specific buildings:

Rubin Campus Center: 8 a.m. – Midnight

Sports and Recreation Center: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Gordon Library: Noon – 1 a.m.

NOTE: All other campus buildings will be accessible through card access only.

Dining hours are as follows:

Morgan Dining: Brunch 10:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.; Dinner 5 – 8 p.m.

Dunkin Donuts: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Campus Center Food Court: 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

NOTE: All other dining facilities will be closed.

PARKING

In order to assist our snow team with the formidable job of campus upkeep during the storm, the following parking modifications are in effect:

Essential employees with valid permits should use the Park Avenue garage. All other employee/commuter parking lots will close at 5 a.m., and violators will be ticketed and towed. Residential students should keep their cars in the residential parking lots. Further information will be provided to students when the lots are scheduled to be cleared.

The Dean Street garage will continue its normal operations for validated parkers, but vehicles should avoid the top level. The Gateway garage will also remain open for students and employees with valid permits.

When using the parking garages, please avoid parking around the perimeter, where snow drifts and icing can occur.

We encourage all students, faculty and staff to employ caution during the storm. Varying weather conditions over the next few days may continue to cause snow drifts, and this precipitation is prone to melting and freezing, which can cause patches of ice to form.

WPI’s grounds team is continuously working to clear and maintain walkways and surface areas. However, everyone is urged to exercise extra caution in selecting their path of travel. Remember that the shortest distance is not always the safest. Please wear proper footwear and use handrails for safety, and whenever possible, avoid stairs and ramps.

Should you find yourself in an on-campus emergency situation, please call WPI Campus Police at 508-831-5555.
