Sustainability Initiatives

In addition to many student groups focused on various sustainability initiatives, WPI also offers several activities for faculty, staff, and other members of our community who want to get involved.

WPI Community Garden and Greenhouse

Together, the Green Team and the Office of Sustainability have developed the Liz Tomaszewski Community Garden, located at 19 Schussler Road (CRC). The garden intends to bring the WPI campus together through the nourishment of communal produce. The garden will also act as a tool for outreach within Worcester; hosting training, workshops, and seasonal harvests to educate community members on environmental justice and provide the tools necessary to reclaim our depleted soil. Check out the Green Team website to register as a volunteer and take part in the urban farming revolution!

Sustainability Operations Advisory Committee

WPI’s Sustainability Advisory Committee provides leadership and coordination for campus-wide efforts in energy and resource conservation, economic security, and social well-being. The committee is drawn from and works with all segments of the WPI community: students, faculty, and staff. Learn more about the Sustainability Advisory, and please email green@wpi.edu if you are interested in joining.

Sustainability Working Groups

To help support the work of the Sustainability Advisory Committee and the Office of Sustainability, working groups are often established to confer on appropriate topics. Recent examples have included supporting the Green Revolving Fund and developing the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan. Ongoing working groups include the Operations and Facilities Group, the Research and Education Group, and the Community Engagement Group. If you are interested in joining a working group, please email green@wpi.edu.

Climate Action Committee

Beginning in the 2023/2024 academic year, the Climate Action Committee will begin collaborating to create WPI’s Climate Action Plan, which will include our community’s carbon neutrality goals. For more information, please email green@wpi.edu.
