Rhodes Scholarship

Rhodes Scholarships are awarded for two years of postgraduate study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom with the option of third year funding dependent on degree program. The selection committee seeks candidates that exhibit outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service. Rhodes Scholars are people who have a vision of how the world could be better and the energy to make a difference and who are motivated to engage with global challenges. The guiding criteria for the selection of Rhodes Scholars include: academic excellence, energy to use one's talents to the fullest, devotion to duty, and instincts to lead and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.

What they’re looking for

  • Age restriction
    • At least 18 and below 24 years-old
    • Have completed a bachelor's degree by July of graduation year
    • minimum GPA of 3.70

The 32 scholarships awarded each year to U.S. citizens are distributed according to a system of 16 geographical districts. The scholarship pays all fees and tuition in addition to a personal allowance. Note that Rhodes Scholarships are also awarded to citizens of other countries in separate competitions. Institutional nomination is required. To be considered as a nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship, interested students must email Hallie Johnson at hjohnson1@wpi.edu no later than August 9, 2024.
