Building Regulatory Policy

Professor Meacham is a Founding Member of the IRCC (www.ircc.info), whose purpose is to advance, at an international level, framework, guidance, and support documents on construction-related regulatory environment issues relative to the development, implementation, and support of performance-based regulatory systems (www.ircc.info). The IRCC currently includes representatives from the lead building regulatory agencies of 12 countries which have developed and implemented performance-based building regulations, as well as affiliates from the research and building control arenas. Over the past 20 years, Professor Meacham has conducted research and provided expert services for several of the member countries. While on sabbatical in 2016, he will be spending time in seven countries working with governments on topics associated with risk-informed performance-based building regulations and design for fire: Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Spain and Sweden.
