Performance-Based Design

Professor Meacham is a leading global expert on performance-based design for fire, having conducted research in the 1990s upon which guidance in the US is based. He has continued research in this area since joining WPI in 2008, with funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and others. His graduate students have helped advance concepts associated with risk-informed performance-based design frameworks, design fire scenarios and design fires, tenability criteria, integrated performance analysis of buildings and more, resulting in numerous presentations and professional conferences and publications in peer review journals and conference proceedings.
