Certificate Completion

You must complete the requirements for the online graduate certificate program four years from the date of admission into the program.  The credits may be subsequently applied toward a master's degree if you are formally admitted to the MS program at a later date.

Prerequisites

As with the master of science program, applicants to the online graduate certificate in fire protection engineering should have a bachelor of science in engineering, engineering technology, or the physical sciences. Those with degrees in engineering technology or the physical sciences may be required to take selected undergraduate courses to round out their backgrounds.

Applicants should have already taken courses in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and calculus through differential equations.

WPI's fire protection engineering program bridges a gap between emergency response and engineering. The program teaches how to mitigate hazards resulting in fires and, when not possible, how to provide a custom fire suppression system.
