Call for Applications to Serve as University Faculty Ombuds

The President’s Office is calling for applications from faculty members interested in serving in the position of Ombuds. The University Ombuds office is typically comprised of two Ombuds, one staff member and one faculty member. Current faculty Ombuds, Kris Wobbe, who was recently appointed interim Dean of The Global School in addition to her role as Director of the Center for Project-based Learning, is stepping down from her ombuds duties. Kate Beverage, Associate CIO for Academic Technologies, serves as the staff ombuds. 

Per the Ombuds Office webpage, the WPI Ombuds Office provides confidential, impartial, independent, and informal problem-solving assistance to students, faculty, and staff. It helps with complaints involving interpersonal, academic, and administrative misunderstandings or disputes and works to help individuals resolve their concerns fairly. 

WPI’s ombuds are members of the International Ombuds Association and adhere to the four fundamental ethical principles of that organization. The Ombuds positions are not compensated, but training and membership in the national association are provided by the university. 

Applications should be submitted by September 1 using the 2026 Faculty Ombuds application form. The current Ombuds and Talent & Inclusion will review applications, meet with select candidates, and make a recommendation to the President.
