Office of the President

The following message was sent to the WPI community September 12, 2023

Dear WPI Community,

Please join me in congratulating our Provost and Senior Vice President Winston Oluwole “Wole” Soboyejo, who has accepted the position of President of the State University of New York (SUNY) Polytechnic Institute.

Over the past seven years WPI has come to know Wole as a brilliant and kind person, and an accomplished researcher and leader. I’m delighted that he will have this opportunity to lead an excellent state university.

Prior to becoming Provost in 2019, Wole joined WPI in 2016 as the Bernard M. Gordon Dean of the School of Engineering. As Provost, Wole leveraged his noteworthy record of building global research and educational partnerships to help launch The Global School at WPI.  He also joined key stakeholders in facilitating interdisciplinary research teams that are driving new collaborations and innovations. I also thank Wole for serving as Interim President during the last academic year, and for working closely with me during the transition.

Wole’s last day at WPI will be September 30, 2023; please watch for an invitation to a community reception later this month.

We've begun a consultative internal process to select an Interim Provost and will keep you posted on the progress going forward.

In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Wole and thanking him for his commitment and service to WPI.

Sincerely,

Grace J. Wang, PhD
President
