Annually, since 2006, WPI has recognized the student employee who has excelled on the job and met or exceeded criteria that include quality of work, initiative, disposition, reliability, and contribution to the employer. It all began when a devoted staff member seized an opportunity to shine a spotlight on some pretty incredible student workers; that staff member is Debbie Bockus, Associate Director, Gordon Library. Over the years Bockus tirelessly sought funding so that this program could be sustained at WPI, at times even dipping into her own pocket to pay expenses. She succeeded in her mission and the program is a staple at WPI. Now, as she retires, she is passing the baton to Deb Dexter and Amy Lawton to lead the charge. Please help us take a moment to thank Debbie Bockus for her incredible passion in recognizing student workers who serve as important contributors to getting work done across departments on our campus.

The SEOY committee is in search of volunteers to coordinate and promote the program. We begin promoting SEOY as early as December and work through February to select a winner. We attend the awards ceremony in April. Read more information about this great program online at the SEOY webpage. The Student Employee of the Year program is a nation-wide selection process offered by the Northeast Association of Student Employment Administrators. Supervisors at colleges across the region nominate student employees who they feel are especially worthy of recognition based on their performance on the job. The student nominees are considered for the Student Employee of the Year Award and have an opportunity to move on for district, regional, and national consideration.

Please email seoy@wpi.edu if you have an interest in serving on this rewarding committee.
