Let's Make WPI Women More Visible on Wikipedia

Department(s):

George C. Gordon Library

Did you know that only 17% of Wikipedia biographies are about women?

Women are underrepresented on Wikipedia--both as subjects and editors. This also applies to WPI alumnae--of the 67 alumni with Wikipedia articles, only 3 are women. Help us change that by joining our WPI Women Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, where we will work on adding articles about WPI women to Wikipedia.

When: Thursday, March 21, 3-5:00pm

Where: George C. Gordon Library, Shuster Lab for Digital Scholarship (first floor)

No experience with editing Wikipedia is necessary, and beginners are welcome! We'll provide some preliminary article ideas and research to help you start your first Wikipedia article, and experienced Wikipedia editors will be on hand to help out. You're also welcome to bring your own ideas of WPI women to write about, or share them with us by emailing: aanewman@wpi.edu.

Drop in for any amount of time--in only 15 minutes, you can make a difference. You will also be entered in a raffle for a Women of NASA LEGO set.

If you can, please create a Wikipedia account before the event.

This edit-a-thon is part of a monthly event series, WPI Digital Volunteers, which brings together members of the WPI community to contribute to crowdsourced projects that have a global impact.

Please note that no food or drink are permitted in the Shuster Lab.

If you anticipate needing accommodations for this event, please contact Anna Newman at aanewman@wpi.edu by Wednesday, March 20.
