President Grace Wang is featured in Women in Academia, a new book published this week by Springer Nature that examines the history, contributions, and future of women leaders in engineering and computer science.

Wang’s story appears in Chapter 5, “Women at the NSF,” which highlights academic women who have served in leadership roles within the National Science Foundation’s engineering and computer science directorates. In addition to describing each leader’s own interest in science and her educational and career trajectory, the chapter explores their collective impact and current status, as well as emerging opportunities for women leaders shaping research and national science policy.

The book traces key shifts that expanded access for women in engineering and computer science, the role of professional organizations and affinity groups in advancing leadership, and the challenges and opportunities facing the next generation of academic leaders.
