TLDR

  • Campus operations will follow regular hours beginning Tuesday.
  • The city’s parking ban is still in effect; the city will tow cars from streets around campus.
  • All parking lots and garages will be open to all members of the WPI community.

Dear WPI Community,

With many thanks to our facilities team for their around-the-clock work clearing sidewalks and parking lots these last two days, campus is open and will follow normal hours of operation as of Tuesday morning.

We recognize that the lingering impact of the storm may make traveling to campus challenging. We ask employees to consult with their managers if they are facing difficulty. Faculty should use their discretion in determining how to hold class; please communicate with your students. Likewise, students should contact their faculty if they expect to have difficulty attending class.

Parking and Shuttles

  • Campus shuttles will resume operations at 6 p.m. this evening (Monday, Jan. 26).
  • Because the city’s ban on street parking is expected to remain in effect, we will open all parking lots to all residential students, commuter students, faculty, and staff through Thursday.
  • All members of the campus community can park in any lot until the parking ban is lifted.
  • All WPI surface parking lots are open; garage gates will lift upon approach.
  • Currently, the Gateway garage is at capacity; the Park Avenue garage is half full.
  • All students who parked in the Park Avenue or Gateway garages may keep their cars in those lots until 6 p.m. Thursday.

IMPORTANT: The City of Worcester will tow cars from streets around campus. Citywide parking bans apply to streets bordering the campus; the city will ticket and tow cars and will continue to enforce restrictions until the parking ban is lifted. All Worcester municipal garages are open and free during the city’s parking ban. Parking fees are imposed once the parking ban lifts. More information is available at https://www.worcesterma.gov/streets/winter-weather/winter-parking. Please note the city’s parking alerts text system is currently not working.

WPI’s response personnel will continue to monitor campus to support the safety and well-being of our community and our facilities. Our grounds team will work continuously to clear and maintain walkways and surface areas. However, we encourage everyone to use caution.  If you find an area that needs further attention as you navigate campus, please report it to Facilities at 508-831-5500.

Should you find yourself in an on-campus emergency situation, please call WPI Campus Police at 508-831-5555. Off campus, dial 911.

Thank you; your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
