Power Outage Planned for West-Side of Campus June 28, 2025

WPI will be conducting preventative maintenance on the west-side electrical switching gear.

A full-day power shutdown for the west-side switch gear will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025.  The electrical shutdown will begin at 7:00 am, with power projected to be restored by 5:00 pm. The shutdown will impact all buildings on the west side of West Street and inside of Salisbury Street, Boynton Street, Institute Road, and Park Avenue, with the exception of the Sports & Recreation Center and the Park Avenue Garage (full list below). 

Additional Impact:

  • Blue Light Emergency Phones with unlit lights have no power and are unavailable.
  • Authorized Personnel only may enter buildings without power.
  • Network Access will be unavailable in several additional buildings even though they will retain power (list below). ITS will contact building occupants.

 Action Needed:

  • Technology Equipment: Individuals who are working on campus will need to unplug all equipment (computers, printers, copiers, etc.) prior to the outage and reconnect that equipment after. ITS will unplug equipment in public computer labs, classrooms, and conference rooms, including A/V equipment. ITS will reconnect this equipment after the outage. Please note that remote desktop connections will not be available to powered-off machines.
  • Data Access: If you require access to WPI resources while your office computer is unavailable during the outage, please contact the IT Service Desk to speak about "terminal services".
