Preparing for First-Year Welcome Experience Days

We all know how warm, welcoming, and supportive the WPI community is, and we’ll have a chance to share that with incoming first-year students and their families during the upcoming First-Year Welcome Experience days!

Established last year, the First-Year Welcome Experience (FYWE) grew out of student feedback and the work of the university’s Mental Health and Well-Being Task Force. Incoming students will visit campus in small groups for one day from June 5 - June 16, 2023, and have a chance to meet their classmates and connect with an academic advisor to get their questions answered, all before New Student Orientation in August. While the FYWE serves as the first step of the new student onboarding and transition experience, it’s not the only step—throughout the summer, incoming students will be consistently interacting with offices and departments across campus both virtually and in person.

So, how can you help? The answer is simple: be yourself! Say hello and welcome our new students to the community, point them in the right direction of a specific building or location, share your favorite place to grab a snack or meal on campus or nearby. It’s all part of the WPI experience, and it’s all something that will make a difference to our incoming students and their families.

Please reach out to Wesley Boucher and Rachael Heard with any questions, and thank you in advance for helping us welcome the Class of 2027 to WPI!
