Raghvendra V. Cowlagi, Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering, has been elected
Associate Fellow, Class of 2027, of the American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics (AIAA). AIAA is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to the
aerospace profession, with nearly 30,000 members from 95 countries. AIAA Associate
Fellows are “individuals of distinction who have made notable and valuable
contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.” Each
year, only one for every 150 voting members are selected and approved. The selection
process is highly competitive, and only approximately 17% of the AIAA membership are
associate fellows. AIAA will formally honor and induct the class at an induction
ceremony during the 2027 AIAA SciTech Forum and Exposition to be held in Orlando in
January 2027.
Prof. Cowlagi’s research interests and expertise are in motion planning, optimal control,
sensor placement, and estimation for the autonomy of mobile vehicles. His research
work is published in over 70 leading journal articles and peer-reviewed conference
papers, and supported by federal funding agencies including the NSF, the US Air Force,
and the US Army. He is a member of the AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Controls
Technical Committee, and serves as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on
Aerospace & Electronic Systems.
