Office of the President

This message was sent to the WPI Community June 29, 2023.

Dear WPI Community,

As you may have already heard, earlier today the United States Supreme Court ruled on two higher education admissions cases that will have implications for the consideration of race in admissions practices nationwide.

In the coming days and weeks, we will be analyzing the Supreme Court’s decision and assessing its impact on WPI. This effort will be conducted by a working group of academic and administrative leadership, led by our Office of General Counsel.

We will continue to honor our core values as we navigate through these changing times and nurture and support a thriving campus culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at WPI.

A community-wide focus on sustainable inclusive excellence is not only imperative to fostering a welcoming living, learning and working environment, but also to elevating the impact of a culture of belonging in the greater STEM community. We remain committed to providing our transformative WPI education to diverse groups of students who share a passion for learning, exploring, and discovering, and are motivated to better the world.

I understand that you may have questions and concerns. As we assess the impact of the Court’s decision, we will be working with offices across the university to provide further guidance and direction. In addition, in the fall, we will offer students and employees opportunities to discuss the Court’s decision and to answer questions. Stay tuned for information about those opportunities early in the new academic year.

Thank you to our students, faculty, and staff for all you do to make WPI a welcoming community.

Sincerely,

Grace

Grace J. Wang, Ph.D.

President
