Snow Impact on Campus and Street Parking February 27-28, 2023

Department(s):

WPI Police

This message was sent to the WPI Community Monday, February 27, 2023.

The National Weather Service has forecast moderate snowfall of 6” to 8” beginning this evening and continuing through tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 28. Given the slow pace of the storm, the only expected impact will be on campus parking.

In order to allow for snow clearing operations, we ask that all students, faculty, and staff move their cars as follows:

All WPI surface parking lots will be closed as of 10 pm tonight, Monday, February 27. Employees working on campus Tuesday are asked to use the Park Avenue, East Hall, or Gateway Garages. As a reminder, employees can reference the WPI Weather-related Closings & Delays document for details about working during inclement weather.

Students must move their vehicles from surface lots to the Gateway Garage no later than 10 pm tonight. The Gateway Garage is open now; gates will open upon approach. Vehicles should be removed from the Gateway Garage by 8 pm Wednesday, February 28. Students are not permitted to park overnight in the Park Avenue Garage.

If you are a student leaving campus for break:

  • You may leave your vehicle in the Gateway Garage until you return. You do not need to notify campus police.
  • If you live in a residence hall, please remember to close all windows in your room before leaving.

All parking lots will reopen by 6 am Wednesday, March 1.

Shuttles

At this time, there is no change to the shuttle services or schedules. Should weather conditions worsen significantly, Campus Police will issue an update.  If you rely on the shuttle, please plan ahead should conditions worsen.

PLEASE NOTE: The City has declared a winter parking ban that will go into effect at midnight tonight and will tow cars left on the street during the ban. For information regarding the City’s parking ban and to sign up for text alerts, go to:  Winter Parking | City of Worcester, MA (worcesterma.gov)

WPI’s grounds team will work continuously to clear and maintain walkways and surface areas. However, we encourage everyone on the campus to use caution during inclement weather.

Should you find yourself in an on-campus emergency situation, please call WPI Campus Police at 508-831-5555.

Thank you,
