Spring 2023: External Relations Newsletter

Dear Partners and Friends,

WPI is known for educating some of the world’s most knowledgeable and expert problem solvers. Our alumni are highly skilled professionals and impactful leaders of industry. Even before our students graduate, they are known for working effectively in teams, thinking creatively, and being prepared to work in the field on day one. These qualities are evident in the testimonials from NVIDIA, which sponsored a Major Qualifying Project, and a student who worked on that project.

I got to work for NVIDIA as a Software Engineer, and once on the project, I was essentially considered a part of the team at NVIDIA. We had daily standups with our MQP team as well as our supervisors. Our supervisors were always available to help however we needed. We were also responsible for deploying the features that we had worked on in the end. We could see the direct impact that our project was going to have on the productivity of employees at NVIDIA. I think beyond the practical benefit of doing an MQP project. There’s also a lot of networking/career potential that such a project could have. While I had already accepted an offer; the supervisors were open to talking to my teammates about potential opportunities at NVIDIA. Beyond that, we were able to connect with current employees and see what it would be like to work at NVIDIA full-time. Truly no other experience could quite replicate that beyond an internship or a co-op at that company, which in essence this was.

These projects have created software that is now found in NVIDIA products such as self-driving cars, AI based cloud compute, and gaming systems. Some of these students are now engineers and leaders at NVIDIA helping to drive the future of the company.
