Dear WPI Community,

Last April we embarked upon the transition to Zoom Phone, and we are thrilled to announce that the project is complete! This change enabled many technical improvements and now WPI is using Zoom for voice, video, SMS text, and chat. We would like to share a few project achievement highlights, final updates, and recommendations, and especially our thanks.

Accomplishments/Achievements

  1. 2,354 extensions were moved to Zoom Phone! New handsets were installed, headsets were distributed, and old equipment was removed.
  2. WPI gained improved call quality, reliability, ease of use, and functionality.
  3. ITS gained improved reporting, automation, and inventory/assignment capabilities.
  4. The Zoom licensing structure and hardware reductions are cost effective moving forward.

Final Updates:

  1. All telephone numbers transitioned to Zoom Phone.
  2. 40 FAX numbers transitioned to the Replixfax cloud faxing service.
  3. 4 digit dialing works for all campus numbers; extensions or names can be entered in the Search by Name directory to place a call.
  4. Campus Police can be reached directly when using a blue light emergency phone, or by dialing x5555 for emergency, or x5433 for business.
  5. SMS text messaging is now available from Zoom Phone; and Zoom SMS instructions are available on the WPI Hub.
  6. You will continue to obtain telephone support through resources on the WPI Hub and by contacting the IT Service Desk

Thank you!

We arrived at successful project closure thanks to the dedication, cooperation, and support of many members of the WPI community. Enthusiastic support from President Wang and Management Council helped us kick off strong. Key contacts from each department played a crucial role in obtaining details, ensuring continuity of processes, and assisting their teams through the transition. We could not have done it without you. To everyone using a WPI telephone, we appreciate your efforts to adopt this new technology. Finally, to the many ITS staff and student workers who worked through every detail, congratulations on a job well done!

With sincere thanks,

Vijay
