Hunt also registered 16 digs and Kwatinetz was in on five block assists.  With three more wins later in the week, WPI is now 16-3 overall.

Juliana Cabello scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute to lift visiting Women’s Soccer to a 2-1 win over Babson in NEWMAC women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field. The goal was also the first of the co-captain's career. The Beavers and Engineers had played three straight overtime games.  Leah Beauton scored a pair of second half goals, including the game-winner as WPI upended NEWMAC foe Emerson, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field. WPI has now won its last four matches and sport a 9-4 record on the season and are 3-2 in conference contests.

Mark Calnan netted the golden goal 57 seconds into overtime as Men's Soccer edged Wentworth 2-1 in non-conference action Tuesday night on Sweeney Field.  The victory also served as head coach Brian Kelley's 100th men's soccer win. His first 35 came as the head coach at Defiance (OH) and is currently 65-28-12 on Boynton Hill.  Calnan drilled home a free kick from just outside the top of the box in the 61st minute to propel WPI to a 2-1 victory over visiting Wheaton in an important NEWMAC contest played late Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.

Julian Nyland tossed three first-half touchdowns in Football’s 24-0 triumph over Catholic in NEWMAC action Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Stadium.  It is the Engineers (4-2, 2-1) third shutout of the season and sixth in the last 17 games dating back to the beginning of the 2017 campaign. Sean McAllen and Nyland teamed up for a 99-yard touchdown reception on the first WPI offensive play of the afternoon. Nic Rossi hauled in a 25-yard pass for the first TD of the second quarter with 11:25 on the scoreboard. With 6:12 left in the frame, junior Clark Ewen capped a nine-play, 46-yard drive with an 8-yard scoring catch.  The entire game can been seen locally on Tuesday at 7pm on TV Charter 3 Channel 193.

Abby O'Sullivan scored twice in the first half and assisted on one of Bridget Sullivan's two second half goals as WPI bested Wheaton, 6-1, in a Friday evening NEWMAC field hockey contest inside Alumni Stadium. The Engineers, who Tuesday had shutout Clark 1-0 behind Emma Bennett’s goal and Karen Mushrall’s shutout, up their record to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The mid-week triumph was also head coach Lisa Moreau's 100th at WPI.

All teams are off until the weekend due to A term final exams.  On Saturday Women’s Soccer welcomes Mount Holyoke to Worcester for a 1pm match while Rowing hosts the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta.  Also this weekend, Volleyball heads to the Plattsburgh State Tournament (8pm Friday and Noon and 2:30pm on Saturday), Field Hockey travels to MIT (11am Saturday), Cross Country takes part in the Connecticut College Invitational (11am Saturday) and Men’s Soccer ventures to Coast Guard (11:30am Saturday).

Mark Calnan of the soccer team has been named as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 7th. The junior has notched the game-winning goal in each of the last three contests. After a last-minute goal at Emerson to close out the previous week, Calnan needed less than a minute in OT to secure the victory Tuesday at Wentworth. His free kick in the 61st minute was the difference as the Crimson and Gray defeated Wheaton this past Saturday.

Shannon Hynes from the field hockey team has been tabbed as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 7th. The junior co-captain anchored a back line that allowed only nine shots - four on-goal – in a pair of NEWMAC wins last week. Only one attempt made it to the keeper in a 1-0 triumph versus Clark Wednesday night and three found their way through in a 6-1 victory over Wheaton Friday evening. The Engineers head into exams tied for second in the conference behind nationally-ranked Babson.
