WPI Weather Alert: Storm Impact on Parking and Classes Monday, March 13-Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Department(s):

Marketing Communications

The National Weather Service is predicting a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow beginning this afternoon and continuing throughout the day Tuesday, March 14, into Wednesday morning, March 15, 2023. Periods of rain will alternate with periods of snow, with the heaviest accumulation expected Tuesday afternoon, March 14. Heavy wet snow and moderately high winds are predicted.

Campus Operations

Given the timing and expected impact of the storm, WPI will cancel in-person classes and labs and close offices at noon Tuesday, March 14. See below for changes to dining and building hours.

Faculty are encouraged to notify their students if they plan to shift to remote delivery for afternoon and evening classes. Students concerned about travel are encouraged to contact their faculty or review the course syllabus and website for instructions on remote access to classes.

Employees concerned about travel should contact their immediate supervisor and determine if a “remote work” option for the morning is appropriate. While we acknowledge that it’s not possible in all departments, managers are encouraged to allow employees to work remotely, keeping in mind office services must remain accessible for the morning.

Parking

All WPI surface parking lots will be closed as of 10 pm tonight, Monday, March 13; they will reopen by noon Wednesday.

Employees working on campus Tuesday and Wednesday are asked to use the Park Avenue, East Hall, or Gateway Garages. As a reminder, employees can reference the WPI Weather-related Closings & Delays document for details about working during inclement weather.

Students must move their vehicles from surface lots to the Gateway Garage no later than 10 pm tonight, Monday, March 13. The Gateway Garage is open now; gates will open upon approach. Vehicles should be removed from the Gateway Garage by 9 pm Thursday, March 16. Students are not permitted to park overnight in the Park Avenue Garage.

 PLEASE NOTE: The City has declared a winter parking ban that will go into effect at midnight tonight and will tow cars left on the street during the ban. For information regarding the City’s parking ban and to sign up for text alerts, go to:  Winter Parking | City of Worcester, MA (worcesterma.gov)

Shuttles

At this time, there is no change to the shuttle services or schedules. Should weather conditions worsen significantly, Campus Police will issue an update.  If you rely on the shuttle, please plan ahead should conditions worsen.
