AI in Everyday Life, A Student IQP Presentation, Hosted by WPI Voyagers

Tuesday, April 2, 2024
1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving. Researchers are encouraged and are finding ways to work in parallel with AI, while reducing its risk and improving its benefits. This swift evolution is causing a growing concern among the public, in terms of job loss, ethics, cybersecurity, and legality.

Join us to hear about AI initiatives in WPI's Interactive Media and Game Development program and a team of students who recently completed their IQP research in Washington, DC. This team developed a set of recommendations for current topics surrounding AI, including a roadmap for implementation for their corporate sponsor. You will also learn how WPI has enriched their academic and campus life endeavors.

Gillian Smith, PhD is Associate Professor of Computer Science and Director of Interactive Media and Game Development at WPI. Gillian, an award-winning game designer, joined WPI in 2017. Her interdisciplinary work merges technical research in AI and HCI with creative practice in textiles and games, with a view toward addressing social issues and broadening participation and perspectives on computing. Their research interests are in computational creativity, game design, computer science education, and the intersection of traditional crafts and computation where many different fields collide in one place, including tech, art, design, social justice, writing, audio, and user experience design.
