What:

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host its first annual Hobby Fair to showcase the creativity of members of its campus community.

The 35 hobbyists to be featured include a competitive sand sculptor (who will demonstrate his hobby), a bee keeper, musicians, quilters, photographers, cake decorators, calligraphers, jewelry makers, a toymaker, a videographer, beaders, wood carvers, stencilers, a basket weaver, embroiderers, and painters. A hang-gliding enthusiast will do a demonstration on the Quadrangle.

The event will be an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to learn something new about fellow members of the WPI community. "It will be a great networking event, one that will inspire the formation of new affinity groups," says Audra Gaul, human resources generalist and one of the fair’s coordinators. "Faculty, staff, and students can make new friends based on their interests. It will be a fun, community-building event."

The event is sponsored by WPI’s Office of Human Resources and Student Affairs and Campus Life Division. Some of the crafts exhibited will be raffled off during the fair. Afterward, WPI’s Gordon Library will host a display of the featured hobbies.
