1098-T Tax Information

PAPERLESS 1098-T FORMS

WPI provides 1098-T forms electronically; however, you may print the form online once available.

 

2023 1098-T Forms are now available though Workday for eligible students.

Please note that only students can access this information and can choose to share it with a parent, guardian or other third party as they deem appropriate.

 

IRS regulations state that students must provide your SSN(Social Security Number) or your TIN(Tax Id Number) in order to use the 1098-T.  This is done in Workday.

Steps to update SSN/TIN

     ♦  In the search section in Workday type in “my id” and hit enter

     ♦  Select Change My Government IDs

     ♦  Click the plus sign under National IDs

     ♦  Enter the United States

     ♦  Select SSN or TIN

     ♦  Enter the nine-digit number, you do not need to enter any dates

     ♦  Click submit

In accordance with the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97), a 1098-T is a required IRS Tax form that each institution must provide to its Student/Taxpayers annually. Information regarding the IRS Publication 970, may be found here www.irs.gov.

WPI offers the Federal Form 1098-T electronically (paperless) for eligible students. All 1098-T forms are emailed to students by the IRS deadline each January.

WPI reports total payments by calendar year, not semester, per the IRS regulations. If you do not receive a form and request one you must provide your SSN/ITIN in order for us to create a form for you.

You are required by U.S. Code 26 § 6109 to furnish your SSN/ITIN so it may be included on an information return (1098-T). If you fail to furnish your correct SSN or ITIN to WPI, you are subject to a penalty of $50.00 by the IRS. (See 26 U.S. Code § 6723 for more information on failure to comply).

Students who wish to opt-out of electronic 1098-T processing need to provide this request in writing to the Bursar's Office.

The Bursar Office staff cannot assist in questions related to your specific eligibility and/or use of the form. We can only answer questions regarding what has been reported on the form.
