Major Qualifying Project (MQP)

WPI has a long history of thought leadership at the intersection of finance and technology (“FinTech”).  We solve real-world FinTech challenges through project-based learning, applied interdisciplinary expertise, and collaboration in the financial and technology sectors. Established in 1997, the Wall Street/FinTech Project Center is part of the WPI FinTech Collaborative, and it also works closely with the WPI Center for Industrial Mathematics & Statistics (CIMS) .

The Wall Street/FinTech Project Center, CIMS, and the WPI FinTech Collaborative support team-based, student-led, FinTech projects by partnering with some of the top global financial services firms and FinTech innovators on critically important strategic and operational initiatives.

Past students have looked at:

  • Risk reduction - Improving risk reporting and technology at Lehman Brothers for country and credit risk

  • Information sharing - Enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of information sharing practices for trading support teams in the Global Credit Products division of Bank of America

  • Client services - Identifying best practices in client service at New York and London branches of Morgan Stanley Prime Brokerage
