At WPI, research is an integral part of the undergraduate experience. No matter what their course of study is, all students engage in research during their time at WPI, whether during the academic year or summer. Check out some of the research our undergraduates have been doing lately.

Peer-Reviewed Publications

WPI undergraduates with their advisors often submit their research work for publications in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.  The peer-review process subjects the work to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field.  This helps ensure that the work is original, important, valid, and of high quality.  You can find a collection of peer-reviewed research papers with WPI undergraduate students as co-authors on the WPI Undergraduate Research Publication Collection.

Virtual Undergraduate Research Showcase

Research, discovery, design, and innovation are core to the undergraduate experience at WPI.  As we celebrate 50 years of the WPI Plan, the Office of Undergraduate Research is pleased to showcase the work of our students and their advisors. Please visit and browse the galleries!  You will see presentation slides by individuals and by student teams from almost all majors offered at WPI. You will see the faces and hear the voices of our students talking about their research.

Summer Research Projects

Every summer, many WPI undergraduate students participate in research, both as a part of programs and independently with faculty and departments.  You can see them, and read a little bit about summer 2020 projects at WPI Summer Undergraduate Research Projects.  The projects were sponsored by the Early Research Experience in E-Term (EREE) Program, the Summer Training in the Arts and Sciences (STAR) Program, the WPI Women's Impact Network, the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program, many academic departments, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other companies and institutions.
