Why did you choose to study at WPI?
I initially chose WPI because of the small campus, project opportunities, and the ability to continue doing all the things that I love to do. Once I arrived on campus, I found groups that I felt connected to and the chance to build my own path through my degree.
How are you involved with the WPI community?
At WPI, I am involved as members of the Fencing Club, Pi Tau Sigma, Theatre Squad, Community Advisors, Masque, Student Philanthropy Association, and Student Alumni Society. I chose many of these groups because I wanted to meet new people and do the things I love to do. I stayed in these groups because each of them gave me unique opportunities to learn something new about myself and how to work with others.
What’s your favorite thing about WPI?
One of my favorite things about WPI is how easy it is to find an avenue to expand my skill sets. This not only includes educational avenues, but also social ones. Through my many involvements on campus, I have learned how to be a better communicator, a confident team player, and a stronger leader.
Do you have a faculty or staff mentor?
A faculty member who has been influential to me is Katie Hamilton. As the Theatre Technical Director, Katie has not only had an educational impact on me through her mentorship as a professor and supervisor, but also a daily personal impact as someone who is easy to talk to. Her knowledge and skill set inside and outside the world of technical theatre makes me confident in my ability to eventually leave WPI a well-rounded individual.
How has WPI’s project-based learning influenced your education?
Project-based learning gave me the chance to learn things from a more hands-on perspective. For example, through the Theatre Department, I completed both my Humanities Practicum and my Theatre Minor Capstone. In both projects, I took on a technical job that I had never done. I picked up necessary skills from my professors and other students around me to help me complete each job well.
