National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Summers of Discovery Program

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is one of 20 institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Unlike most of the other institutes in the NIH, the NIEHS is located in the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) has established the Summers of Discovery Program for which Intramural Research Training Awards (IRTAs) are given to outstanding high school, college undergraduate and graduates students interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical/ biological sciences. Scientific disciplines within the DIR include neurosciences, biophysics, genetics, carcinogenesis, reproductive and developmental biology, chemistry, pharmacology, pulmonary pathobiology, classical and functional toxicology, clinical research, statistics, biomathematics, epidemiology, computer modeling and risk assessment.
