Description

WPI Police has been made aware of an Assault and Battery by an Airsoft pellet gun in the past and the information is as follows:

On Tuesday June 21, 2022 at approximately 3:35pm, a student was walking in the area of West and Highland Street when he was struck several times from an airsoft pellet gun from a passing vehicle.  No injuries were reported. The shots were fired from the passenger rear window of a four door gray sedan with white license plates and blue lettering. The Airsoft gun was described as white with an orange tip. The vehicle immediately left the area and fled East of Highland Street. No description was available of the occupants of the vehicle.

Description

On June 18, 2022 at approximately 1:15pm,  WPI student reported that approx 15 minutes prior, their apartment at 208 Highland Street was broken into and items were stolen.

The student reports that they were in the shower and had inadvertently left the front door to the apartment unlocked. When they went into the living room at approximately 1:20pm, they noticed that a laptop computer, a power supply and bag were all missing. There were no witnesses to identify the individual or individuals responsible.  There is no description to report at this time and unknown direction of travel.

WPI Police and Worcester Police responded and checked the area with negative results.  The incident continues to be under investigation

Prevention Advice
  • Make sure all interior windows and doors are locked and dead bolted when closed.
  • If there is an intruder in your home do not confront, stay in a safe place and call police immediately
  • Make sure there are no ladders or other yard tools that could be used to gain access to a window. Exterior lighting is a deterrent. Inventory your property with a video recorder or camera.
  • Record the serial numbers of your property.
  • Draw your shades.
  • Remove expensive articles from the residence when away for extended periods of time.
  • Establish relationships with neighbors and check on each other's property when away.

Description

  On 06/02/22 it was reported to WPI Police that at approx. 9:51pm three students were walking east on Institute Rd when a dark blue four door sedan drove by them, and from the vehicle one of the occupants shot what appeared to be plastic pellets at them, from the sunroof on the vehicle, striking them but causing no injury. The vehicle continued to drive east on Institute Rd.  They were unable to give a description of the occupants in the vehicle.

WPI Police and Worcester Police are investigating.

     On 5/26/22 it was reported to WPI Police that at approx.7:10pm a student was walking east on Highland Street at the corner of Russell Street (by Elm Park), when a dark blue sedan (2 or 4 door) drove by him, and from the vehicle one of the occupants shot what appeared to be plastic pellets at him, hitting him.  The student was not injured. The vehicle continued to drive east on Highland Street.  They were unable to give a description of the occupants of the vehicle.

WPI Police and Worcester Police are investigating.

     On 5/25/22 at approx. 9:35PM it was reported to WPI Police that at approx. 9:00PM two students were walking south on Dean Street near Highland Street when a gray 4 door sedan pulled up next to them, slowed down and from the vehicle shot what appeared to be plastic pellets at the students, hitting both of them.  Neither student was injured.  They described the weapon as what appeared to be a “plastic” gun with an orange tip.  They could give no description of the two occupants in the vehicle as the occupants were wearing masks.  The vehicle continued to drive south on Dean Street taking a right on Highland street.

Description

On 04/18/2022 at approximately 21:33 hours, WPI Police received the report that a student walking on Institute Rd, was struck by what appears to be a pellet gun, from a passing motor vehicle. A similar incident was reported at 21:40 at the intersection of West Street and Institute Rd with no injuries to pedestrians or students.  The vehicle is described as an older dark colored sedan, possibly blue or black with a loud exhaust, with Massachusetts license plates.  Unknown as to the occupants of the vehicle.  Last known direction of travel was westbound on Institute Rd towards Park Ave.

Description

On 03/27/22 at approximately 01:22 AM, a WPI student reported to the WPI Police by email of an unknown male knocking on his apartment door at the WPI Townhouses and asking for money for an emergency in Boston.  The student did not provide any money and told the suspicious male to contact Police for assistance. 

The male is described as African American in a dark color hoodie (black or blue) black pants, blue slippers without socks, heavy size and approximately 70 inches tall (5'10")

The suspicious male was identified and subsequently verbally trespassed from WPI Property.

  • Be alert, report any suspicious persons or activity to WPI Police
  • Do not hold doors open, and make sure doors closed behind you. 
  • Keep all "Card Access" doors secure.
  • Report to Campus Police any unknown parties who "piggyback" to gain access into "Card Access secured areas".

Description

On 3/22/22 at approximately 12:14PM, a WPI student reported to WPI Police that earlier this morning while she was walking on the Institute Park path way from Salisbury Street towards Humboldt Ave, she observed an unidentified older white male walking in back of the bandstand.  She continued walking towards Humboldt Ave and noticed the male began walking towards the same direction as her as she increased her walk.  She observed the male increase his walk to keep up with her.  She crossed the street and walked up to a house and knocked on the front door.  The male changed direction and headed towards a dodge truck, two doors, two tone color (dark blue and silver) parked on Humboldt Ave.  This individual was described as an older White or Hispanic male, dark hair and average build.

This incident is under investigation by the WPI Police Department.  If anyone has any information, please contact the WPI Police Department.
