Graduate Student Travel Award

The WPI Robotics Engineering department will launch the Graduate Student Travel Award to partially fund RBE graduate student presenters/authors to attend major robotics conferences, in the amount of up to $1,000.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19 and WPI's current Travel Policy, we cannot give travel awards at this time, however, the awards will be given for registration for virtual attendance.

  • Who Should Apply?
    • RBE graduate student author can apply with a paper accepted in a peer-reviewed robotics-related conference.
    • Application to RBE Award Committee should be received at least two months before the time of the conference.
    • Presenting authors will receive priority.
    • Funds may not be used for networking or collaborative visits that are not associated with conference.
    • Funds cannot be used for society memberships.
    • A student may apply more than once per academic year.
    • There is no limit on the number of graduate students from a research advisor’s group that may apply each year, but this may affect the award decisions.
    • If an award is being made, the student will be given up to $1,000 towards covering the travel including conference registration, transportation to the meeting location, and hotel accommodations. (Meals are not covered by the travel award.)
    • Since the travel award will provide only partial support in many cases, students are encouraged to apply other sources of funding, such as the travel support from the Dean of Graduate Studies. It is assumed that the research advisor will fund the rest of the costs, if any.
    • All expense reports should be turned in to Kristen Bronger within one month of the date of the conference. Any funds not claimed within one month of the conference date will be forfeited.
