Frontiers (in-person)

Frontiers is a two-week or four-week summer program where students make lifelong friends while participating in hands-on classes and labs to explore STEM and the humanities. This not-for-credit exploratory program runs multiple weeks throughout the summer.Audience: ​Students Entering Grades 11 & 12

  • Application which includes short essay and list of involvement
  • Official transcripts are preferred, but self-submitted transcripts are also accepted
  • Letter of Recommendation (optional)
  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (required for international applicants)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What should we expect on Opening Day?

    Opening day for Frontiers is on Sunday (either 7/10 or 7/24) and the estimated time of arrival is currently between 12 and 1pm (subject to change). More specific details will be communicated with students and families as we get closer to the date. Opening day will include move in to the residence hall, an official campus welcome, student orientation, student dinner, floor meeting and IT account setup. Families are included for a short time for moving into the residence halls and an official welcome from WPI.

  • Is transportation provided?

    WPI does not offer a specific transportation service through the university. Below is a list of some companies that have worked with our students in the past. Please note that neither WPI nor the Pre-collegiate Outreach Programs office endorse these companies. They are shared for informational purposes only.

  • What should we expect on Closing Day?

    Closing day for Frontiers is on Friday (either 7/22 or 8/5) and the estimated time of move-out from the residence halls is around 12pm (exact time still being finalized). The exact time and details will be finalized soon and shared with students and families.

  • What do we need to know about COVID-19 on move in day?

    Upon arrival to campus, all students will be provided a COVID-19 rapid test to take prior to moving into the residence halls. Face coverings are optional for students who are fully vaccinated and highly recommended for students who have been approved for a medical/disability or religious exemption. *Subject to change. For full information on our COVID-19 policies please see our Programs Policies Page.
