Data Science Datathon 2022 Winners

Winner(s) of Industry-Sponsored Data Science Datathon for Life Science Tools 2022

The goal of this inaugural Datathon was to harness the power of data science to find trends and insights for specific workflows by mining full peer-reviewed journal articles based on a starting list of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). This Datathon was spearheaded and sponsored by ThermoFisher Scientific and hosted by the Data Science Program over the Halloween weekend with over 60 WPI students competing.

Team GOAT was awarded first place with their “Application of Human-in-Loop to Increase Product Revenue” project solution in the Datathon for Life Science Tools Industry 2022, while Team Antibodies came in a close second with their “Novel Technique to Evaluate Research Papers to Identify Opportunities for Protein Purification Products” project solution.

Winning teams not only won cash prizes, but also participated in a virtual presentation with ThermoFisher Scientific leaders, attended by over 40 members of their community, on December 7, 2022, to showcase their winning ideas!
