Professor Diane M. Strong has been working in the capacity of Interim Department Head since July 2018. She came to WPI in 1995 as Visiting Assistant Professor and by 2009 she had become a full Professor. She teaches courses in business database management, enterprise systems, and business analytics. 

Her research interests include Healthcare Information Systems and Technology, Data Science and Business Data Analytics, Data and Information Quality, Affordances and Critical Realism, and Enterprise Systems. She has been PI of several NSF grants related to organizational uses of Enterprise Systems and Electronic Health Record Systems and personal uses of smartphones for supporting chronic disease management. She is currently co-PI of an NIH grant focused on chronic wound analysis and care. 

She received WPI’s Chairman’s Exemplary Faculty Award in 2017 and WPI Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Scholarship 2014. She is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems, and has been inducted into honor societies based on her studies, including Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi (Scientific Research), Beta Gamma Sigma (Business and Management), Upsilon Pi Epsilon (Computer Science), and Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics). 

Diane holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. from New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a B.S. from University of South Dakota.
