Five top-10 finishes Sunday propelled Women’s Swimming and Diving team to a third place team finish in the NEWMAC Championship at MIT.  The third place finish marked the second best finish for the team, bested only by their second place finish at home in 2017. The 400 Free Relay team comprised of Molly SykesKatherine PawlakKimberly Hazeltine and Audrey Berner ended the night with a bang notching a school record time of 3:33.29 for a sixth place finish. The Engineers finished the meet with 649 points, good for third place, up three spots from last season.

Another NCAA B cut time, and a third place relay finish helped Men's Swimming and Diving to third place in the NEWMAC Championships Sunday night in Cambridge. After a pair of fifth place finishes on Saturday, Kyle Staubi took second in the 200 Back final in a time of 1:49.32 Sunday notching an NCAA B cut time in the process.  The Engineers finished the meet with 868.5 points, good for third place for the fourth straight year.  The 1650 Free featured four different swimmers representing the Crimson and Gray as Markus Zimmermann raced to a sixth place finish, clocking in at 16:26.73

A 22-0 second quarter for Women's Basketball paved the way for a 68-36 victory by the Engineers over host Mount Holyoke in NEWMAC action on Saturday afternoon. The win, coupled with Babson's victory over Coast Guard, clinches a spot in next week's NEWMAC tournament for the Engineers (14-11, 4-6 NEWMAC).  The seventh-seeded Crimson and Gray will travel to second-seeded Springfield for a 7pm quarterfinal contest on Wednesday. Senior Spencer Vinson led the Engineers with 12 points, and Emily Raynowska scored 10 points off the bench.

Edward HayDavid Gibson and Nikolaos Diakides all placed third as the Wrestling competed in the New England Wrestling Association Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England on Saturday. As a team, the Engineers compiled 46.5 points to place fifth in the 15-team event.  Roger Williams took the title with 141 points while Johnson & Wales (133.5) edged Springfield (129.5) for second place. Hay amassed 17.5 team points at 157 pounds, leading the Crimson and Gray in scoring.

A school record run, a pair of efforts that resulted in New England Championship qualifying marks and 24 top-five finishes highlight the Men's and Women's Track and Field’s effort at the Springfield Triangle Classic on Saturday. The school record effort came in the women's 1000m run where WPI finished first through fifth and Sydney Packard raced her way to a 2:52.70 finish demolishing her own school record while also establishing a new facility and an unofficial DIII track & field all-time best performance. The WPI women are No. 14 nationally while the Engineer men are fifth in New England.

The winter championship season is in full force this week.  Women’s Basketball kicks it off Wednesday with a 7pm NEWMAC Quarterfinal at Springfield while Men’s Basketball hosts Babson in a NEWMAC Semifinal on Friday at 7pm.  Track and Field competes in the New England Division III Championships Friday and Saturday with the men venturing to Springfield and the women heading to Middlebury while Wrestling travels to Rhode Island College for the NCAA Northeast Regional Saturday and Sunday.  And if you love Spring, it’s here as Baseball hosts Brandeis Saturday at noon (weather permitting) at the New England Baseball Complex.
