Department(s):

Sports & Recreation

Ama Biney has been named to the D3hoops.com and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Region Second Teams. The guard was a NEWBA first team selection and D3hoops second team honoree a year.  Madison Beck has been selected to represent WPI at the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic that will be held March 24th at 1pm on Senda Berenson Court inside Smith's Ainsworth Gym.

Tyrone Patterson delivered a walk-off three-run shot to right as WPI defeated Brandeis 12-9 in the Engineers home opener Thursday at the New England Baseball Complex. Trailing 9-8 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Steven Gallagher walked and came around to score thanks to a double by Matt Howard. David Larson then drew a walk before Patterson ended the game.

Sydney Packard and Lea Strangio jumpstarted Women’s Outdoor Track & Field’s season with impressive 800-meter run performances Saturday at Georgia Tech's Yellow Jacket Invitational. Packard broke up a quartet from Florida State with a new school record, and second-place, time of 2:09.34. It is the second time in three outdoor races the sophomore reset the WPI standard.  Strangio, meanwhile, finished eighth in a time of 2:14.09, the senior's best to start a campaign. While very early in the season, the duo is ahead of the 167 performances already reported as of Saturday afternoon.

Weather permitting, Softball is scheduled for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend, including its home opener on Friday, March 23rd versus Westfield State at 3:30pm on the Rooftop Field.  Baseball is slated to be home four times this week, Monday at 3:30pm vs. Mass. Maritime, Tuesday at 3:30pm vs. Nichols, Thursday at 3:30pm vs. Gordon and to open the NEWMAC schedule with a noon doubleheader against MIT.  All games are at the New England Baseball Complex - 333 SW Cutoff, Northborough, MA 01532.
