WPI senior Spencer Herrington has been selected as a D3football.com All-East Team honoree for the second consecutive season.  A first team kicker a year ago, Herrington was named to the 2018 third team to become the program's second two-time recipient (Brian Murtagh 2015, 2016). It is also the third straight honor for a WPI kicker.

Dave Chen won three individual events and the 400-yard freestyle relay did its job as Men's Swimming & Diving swept host Wesleyan, No. 11 Tufts and No. 18 Williams Saturday. The Engineers are receiving votes in the national coaches poll. WPI's foursome of Jean Philippe MiraldaSid WilliamsCraig Barrett and Jack Bauer was second overall, but more importantly a second quicker (3:08.79-3:09.83) than Williams in the relay to secure the 151-150 triumph. The Boynton Hillers also outscored Tufts 157-148 and the Cardinals 245-69.   Katherine Pawlak posted a second-place time in the 50-yard freestyle as Women’s Swimming & Diving defeated host Wesleyan on Saturday. The Engineers bested the Cardinals 169-145, and were upended by No. 5 Williams 242-73 and No. 16 Tufts 237-84. 

Dan WensleyMichael CurtisRonan Ball and Austin Shrewsbury all were victorious twice on Saturday as the nationally-ranked Wrestling team went 1-2 in a star-studded home Super Quad in the Sports & Recreation Center.  The No. 20 Engineers defeated SUNY-Oneonta in their middle match after being knocked off 32-9 by No. 5 Wabash (IN) in the opener and before falling 30-6 to No. 3 Johnson & Wales in the finale.

Bailey Savage established a new career-high, and shared game-high honors with Maddie Blake, of 15 points as Women’s Basketball defeated Clark, 62-44, in a NEWMAC match-up Saturday afternoon inside Harrington Auditorium.With the triumph, the Engineers (5-4, 1-3 NEWMAC) get back in the win column and secure their first conference victory of the season.

Garrett Stephenson posted his second double-double of the season, this time with 20 points and 10 rebounds, as Men's Basketball remained unbeaten with an 83-67 triumph over host Salem State Saturday afternoon in Twohig Gymnasium. The Engineers, who are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25, are now 8-0. 

All teams are off this week due to final exams.  The basketball squads have a busy end of December with Men’s Basketball hosting Husson on Sunday, December 16th at 1pm before participating in the Tampa Bay Shootout December 29th and 30th. Women’s Basketball will host a Holiday Tournament, squaring off against UMass Boston at 5pm on Sunday, December 30th before facing either No. 8 Scranton or Roger Williams at 1pm or 3pm on Monday, December 31st in Harrington Auditorium.

Men’s Student-Athlete of the Week

Swimming & Diving 400-Yard Freestyle Relay

The 400-yard freestyle relay from the swimming & diving team has been honored as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 9th. Senior Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), freshman Sid Williams (Irvine, CA), graduate student Craig Barrett (Edinburgh, Scotland) and senior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) was just over a second quicker (3:08.79-3:09.83) than No. 18 Williams to secure the 151-150 triumph. The Engineers also bested No. 11 Tufts and host Wesleyan.

Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week

Bailey Savage - Basketball - Freshman – Charlton, MA

Bailey Savage of the basketball team has been selected as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 9th. Savage averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds, and totaled four assists and two steals in the Engineers 1-1 week. After tying her career-high of 11 points at the half versus Clark, the freshman went on to share game-high honors with 15 on the day.
