WPI’s Center for Heat Treating Excellence (CHTE) and the Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their collaboration on heat treatment research, education, and industry standards.
The agreement gives WPI students working within CHTE the opportunity to participate in MPMA standards development committees, where they can learn how standards for gears and bearings are written and bring research perspectives to the discussion. WPI will receive an MPMA Academic Membership, providing access to the alliance’s standards resources, educational programs, and member network. MPMA, in turn, will join CHTE as a member and participate in the center’s twice-yearly research meetings.
“Our students benefit enormously from engaging directly with industry standards work, and MPMA’s participation in our research meetings ensures our work stays closely aligned with the needs of the industries it is meant to serve,” said Thomas Christiansen, professor of mechanical and materials engineering and CHTE technical director.
