WPI’s Beck Arruda ‘21 recently won top prize in a German poetry slam that was organized by UMass Amherst and the Goethe Institute in Boston. It was an opportunity for students studying German to test their skills at writing and performing. The contest, moderated by German slam poet, Bas Böttcher, featured participants from the New England area with judges, including teachers and professors of German, from across the country. Beck's poem, Eine Vorstellung (An Introduction), won first prize among submissions at the university level of the competition. The work is described as an inventive meditation on identity, belonging, and self-knowledge.  Beck is president of WPI’s German and philosophy clubs.
