BRANDON ECCHER – FOOTBALL – JUNIOR – FRANKLIN, MA
Brandon Eccher from the football team has been honored as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 25th. Eccher hauled in a pair of first quarter touchdown passes from quarterback Dan Eckler as the Engineers cruised to a 38-8 home Liberty League victory over Merchant Marine on Friday evening. The junior caught scoring passes of 36 and 34 yards in the opening nine minutes and ended with game-bests of six receptions and 124 yards as WPI improved to 5-2, its best record over the first seven games since 2008.
JANE BINGEL- WOMEN’S SOCCER – JUNIOR – WRENTHAM, MA
Jane Bingel of the women’s soccer team has been selected as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 25th. Bingel picked an opportune time for her first career goal as she took a pass from senior Emily Doherty and chipped the ball over the Springfield goalkeeper in the 20th minute as WPI defeated Springfield 1-0 in an important NEWMAC contest. The marker by the midfielder gave the Engineers their first win over the Pride in program history, a string of 21 games, and helped position WPI for a NEWMAC Tournament slot.
