SEAN DONCASTER – BASKETBALL
Sean Doncaster of the basketball team has been selected as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 14. Doncaster continued his recent strong play by averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds during a 2-0 week for the Engineers. The junior guard from Medford, Mass. posted his second straight double-double with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in WPI’s 58-50 road win at MIT in a match-up of regionally-ranked teams, receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25. Doncaster then poured in a game-best 18 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals as the Crimson and Gray returned home and defeated Coast Guard 69-60.
LEA STRANGIO – TRACK AND FIELD
Lea Strangio of the Track and Field team has been honored as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week. Strangio re-established her own school record in the 800-meter run and was part of the school-record 4 x 400-meter relay at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Track and Field Invitational. The Watertown, Mass. sophomore crossed the finish line in a time of 2:16.28 to set the record in the event for the second consecutive week. Strangio later teamed with senior Alex Price, Sara Velleca and Liz Pellegrini to set the program standard with a heat-winning, and 13th-place time of 3:54.61.
