Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will hold a series of commencement ceremonies to honor its class of 2022. This year, 1,200 undergraduates and nearly 800 graduate students will receive their degrees during separate events. This year also marks President Laurie Leshin’s final commencement exercises before stepping down to become the Director of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Graduate Commencement -- Thursday, May 12, 5:00 pm

Speaker: Sethuraman Panchanathan, PhD, Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF)

ROTC Commissioning Ceremony -- Friday, May 13, 1:30 pm

The Worcester Consortium of Colleges Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will hold a ceremony in which cadets in the Army, Navy, and Air Force programs at Anna Maria College, Assumption University, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Fitchburg State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester State University, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell will be commissioned as officers.

Commissioning Officer: Brigadier General Virginia I. Gaglio, Chief of Staff and Air Component Commander of the Massachusetts Air National Guard

Undergraduate Commencement -- Saturday, May 14, 10:00 am

SpeakerRochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry

Honorary Degree Recipients:

  • Lesley Small ’72, the first woman to receive an undergraduate degree from WPI
