Karen Kashmanian Oates is a professor of biology and biotechnology and directs WPI’s master of science in global health program. She previously was Peterson Family Dean of Arts and Sciences and deputy director for undergraduate education at the National Science Foundation. Her areas of research focus include innovative approaches to science education and assessment. She also conducts faculty development workshops nationally on topics including new teaching approves to support learning, assessment strategies, and undergraduate research.

Worldwide health challenges are global, from pandemics to water quality and inequitable access to care. Professor Karen Oates, who directs WPI’s master’s in global health program, spoke with GBH News’ “All Things Considered” about how technology, including artificial intelligence, can be leveraged to address these challenges.
