JOHN CALIRI – BASEBALL

John Caliri of the baseball team has been honored as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 27.  The senior from Hanson, Mass. logged hits in all three of his appearances last week en route to hitting .500 (7-of-14).  The catcher’s three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference as WPI outlasted Nichols 20-15 on March 22.  He had three hits versus the Bison to go along with two hits and a pair of RBIs in a 10-2 defeat of Brandeis the following day.  Finally, Caliri helped the Engineers take their NEWMAC opener Saturday against regional-ranked Wheaton with two hits and a run scored.

LINDSAY GURSKA – SOFTBALL

Lindsay Gurska of the softball team has been selected as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 27.  Gurska batted an eye-popping .615 (8-for-13) with five runs scored as the Engineers took three of four games last week.  The junior catcher from Revere had a hit in all four contests and also was behind the plate for Kelsey Saucier’s no-hitter against Fitchburg State on March 23.  In Saturday’s conference-opening doubleheader versus Wheaton, Gurska broke a scoreless game with a homer in the bottom of the fourth in WPI’s 5-1 victory in game one before batting a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap.
