A topping-off ceremony will be held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) under-construction residence hall. To celebrate the final roof beam's installation, a potted tree seedling, an American flag, and the beam -- painted white and signed by ceremony attendees -- will be hoisted to the building's roof.
The new, 232-bed, apartment-style residence hall and 189-parking garage are set to open in fall 2008. The residence hall will feature four-person apartments with full kitchens, living rooms, compartmentalized bathrooms, and either single or double bedrooms. The building will also include recreation and fitness facilities, technology suites on each floor, and full wireless access.
Boston-based CannonDesign is the building's architect, and the general contractor is Gilbane Building Company.
Who
Speakers will be Neil Benner, project manager, Gilbane; and Alfredo DiMauro, WPI's assistant vice president of facilities. A CannonDesign representative will also speak about the residence hall's green design and plans to obtain certification from U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
