Education
PhD, Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University, 2022
MS, Oil & Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, China University of Petroleum-Beijing, 2017
BS, Oil & Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, China University of Petroleum-Beijing, 2014

Dr. Lichao Fang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. From 2022 to 2025, she was a postdoctoral scholar in Materials Science & Engineering at Stanford University.

Prof. Fang works with developing computational and data driven models with X-ray imaging experiments in advanced manufacturing and design. The long-term goal of her research group is to build self-regulating additive manufacturing systems to print sustainable materials with programmable functionalities and properties that adapt to complex environments. The fabrication of these advanced materials will benefit the next-generation manufacturing in the application of aerospace, clean energy, bio-implants, and medical devices.
